If you are aged between 12 and 24 then you can become a crew member on board one of our vessels. In this section you can find out all about our voyages and about how you can become involved.

During your voyage you can work towards a national qualification if you wish. OYT Scotland is a RYA (Royal Yachting Association) Training Centre. We aim to give everybody who sails with us their Start Yachting Certificate which is the first rung on the ladder to becoming a skipper of a sailing boat if you want to do more sailing. You can find out full details here:
RYA Start Yachting Certificate
It may be possible to complete the RYA Competent crew certificate during your voyage (this is one level above the start yachting certificate). Competent crew requires a little more work than Start Yachting and is not always possible to complete in a seven day voyage. If you would like to work toward this certificate please let us know at the time of booking.
RYA Competent Crew Certificate.
We also run the John Muir Award onboard our vessels which promotes awareness of the environment and how to protect it. You can find full details about the award on their website:
John Muir Award.
The John Muir Award needs several weeks’ preparation and you submit paperwork to the JMA prior to undertaking the activities. If you would like to participate in the JMA please let us know.
OYT Scotland is also an Access organisation for the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, you can find out more in our Duke of Edinburgh’s Award section here .
If you are working towards an ASDAN or Youth Achievement Award there are sections and challenges that you can set to complete onboard. One of our staff members (most likely your watch leader) can help you plan, complete, review and gather evidence for your Award.
At the end of your voayge you will get an OYT Scotland voyage completion certificate in recognition of your hard work.
