Volunteer Sea Staff Training
Overview
Ocean Youth Trust Scotland places great value in the contribution of its volunteers and has developed a very strong culture of training and development over the years.
OYT Scotland is wholly committed to providing a comprehensive, high quality, subsidised training programme to provide sea-staff with the level of competency required to deliver the highest standards of safety and personal development on our youth voyages.
We deliver a number of courses in house (on our vessels) and are also happy to recommend training with external providers.

RYA Shorebased Courses;
We offer our volunteers the following RYA shorebased courses at our annual training seminar in February each year:

RYA Short Range VHF
RYA Sea Survival
Our next training seminar will take place in Stirling Managment Centre 18th &19th February 2012, more details including all courses offered and cost of courses will be on our website soon.
RYA Practical Courses;
RYA Competent Course
By the end of the course you should be able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy and assist in all the day to day duties on board, while also gaining valuable sea time onboard our vessels.
Next available course; 27th-31st August 2012, starting @ 10.00, Victoria Harbour, Greenock & finishing @ 16.00, Victoria Harbour,Greenock.
Cost: £150 per person
RYA Powerboat level 2
Learn to handle boats safely at high and low speeds and other important boat handling skills. This is a very practical course ideal for OYT Scotland Bosuns or anyone wanting to learn more about powerboats/ dinghys. It brings all these skills together including coastal passage planning.
No previous experience is required.
New for 2012:
We are delighted to announce that in 2012 we will be working in partnership with Sport Scotland's Cumbrae centre, OYT Scotland members will be able to benifit from a number of discounted courses; including Day Skipper, Coastal Yachtmaster and Yachtmaster Offshore course and exams.

Soft Skill courses;
OYT Scotland deliver a number of youth work modules each year at our training seminar, including; Dealing with difficult behaviour, working with young people with additional needs, how to mentor young people on voyages- more details of courses will be available soon.
